In country like India, dowry has always been a major issue, many reports are out every day. Women face mental harassment even physical assault for not giving appropriate number of gifts. Sadly, in India it has always been a major issue even in the era of 2026. Recently some news has come out regarding one girl of 26-year-old.

She committed suicide as the harassment and physical assault led her to take such harsh steps to end her life. The girl’s name was Vishakha and she got married to a Dr. Nitin Tilkar. According to Vishakha’s family there has been claims regarding how she was pressurized to bring dowry money and gold from family. She also faced a lot of taunts regarding that how she brought gifts and those gifts were not adequate.

At first the relationship between husband and wife were cordial but it took a sudden turn, suddenly a lot of pressure, mental harassment, physical assault was being done to her. She was always monitored as her husband fixed a CCTV camera, in fact she was not even allowed to talk to her neighbor too.

Physical assault had happened to her when she once talked to a lady from her neighborhood. Vishakha’s family claimed that the relationship at first were very friendly between them and this all started to happen when Vishakha went to her matrimonial house. All this happened to Vishakha because her In-laws were demanding more dowry, at times Vishakha’s family gave money but whenever she returned empty handed, brutal treatment was given to her.

This sort of incidents seems common now, as even after so many advertisement and legal actions, supreme court stating that dowry is illegal, still same acts are done by people, same news are circulating. Now, it is the matter of thinking whether India will ever change or not.
