India has kicked off its BRICS 2026 presidency, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar says the focus will be on people and inclusivity for the year. In New Delhi, Jaishankar launched the official BRICS India 2026 website, theme, and logo at a ceremony, marking India’s fourth time chairing the group.
At the event, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said India’s leadership of BRICS will put “humanity first,” with a “people-centered” approach. He said India wants to use its position to bring BRICS countries together to help the world, especially since we’re facing economic problems, political tensions, and development issues.
In a message on social media platform X after the launch, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said India’s BRICS presidency will work on building resilience, boosting innovation, improving cooperation, and promoting sustainability. These four things will guide discussions and projects all year.
India officially took over the BRICS presidency from Brazil on January 1, 2026. The last time the country was in charge was in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic and other significant global challenges. External Minister Jaishankar stated that the 2026 presidency is significant because BRICS is marking its 20th anniversary. Over the last 20 years, the group has become a key place for emerging markets and developing countries to work together.
External Minister Jaishankar said that India sees BRICS as helpful and working alongside the broader global system. He mentioned that India will stick to the ideas of respect, equality, and working together. He said India wants to make sure its leadership is open, useful, focused on results, and centered on what people actually need.
The BRICS 2026 logo was also shown at the launch. It’s based on the lotus flower, which often stands for growth and success. The middle of the logo has the Indian greeting “Namaste,” which shows welcome, respect, and openness. The colors in the design stand for the BRICS member countries and their togetherness.
The logo was picked through a contest by the Ministry of External Affairs on the government’s Citizen Engagement Platform. The winner was Sudeep Subhash Gandhi, who said the design mixes welcoming others with India’s move toward progress and shared success with its BRICS partners.
The theme for India’s BRICS presidency is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” External Minister Jaishankar said that this theme stresses the need to build strengths, push new ideas, and make sure development is sustainable and helps everyone. He also said that closer cooperation among BRICS members can help handle common issues fairly and inclusively.
The BRICS India 2026 website, which was launched along with the logo and theme, is expected to be important all year.
It will share news about meetings, projects, and results under India’s leadership. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said it will improve openness, encourage involvement, and make sure information is shared quickly.

As India gets ready to host meetings and events as part of BRICS, the government hopes the 2026 presidency will reinforce the group’s importance and strengthen cooperation among its members. With its focus on putting people first, India wants to make people, development, and cooperation central to the BRICS plan in the coming year.
