Following a theatrical mishmash release, the action drama, Ustaad Bhagat Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan is going to digitally release, which will see the movie get a second chance to reach its viewers. The film will start streaming on Netflix on April 16, 2026, and will be provided in various languages, such as Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

The OTT release follows the theatrical release of the film by a little less than one month, on March 19, during the Ugadi festival but without creating much momentum in the box office.

Movie goes to OTT following poor box office performance

Ustaad Bhagat Singh was not able to keep the audiences glued in the cinemas as it had great expectations. The movie had an underwhelming start with a gradual decline in earnings in the next several weeks.

The film earned the Indian trade of an estimated ₹72 crore net, and the gross domestic product of approximately ₹84 crore. The foreign markets added another 11 crore and the total earnings rose but still below expectations of a star-driven project.

During the third week, collections were very low with the daily income going down to only a few lakhs showing poor footfall and repeat audience. Competition with other releases such as Dhurandhar: The Revenge also affected the performance as it received a better audience response at the time.

Reception of cast, crew and storyline

Under the direction of Harish Shankar, the movie is a blend of action and commercial aspects, with Sreeleela and Raashii Khanna prominent among the leading roles, along with Pawan Kalyan. It has a supporting cast of skilled actors like R. Parthiban, K. S. Ravikumar, Gautami, Nawab Shah, Rao Ramesh, and Jayaprakash.

Nevertheless, the movie was met with a lot of negative to mixed critiques by both critics and the viewers. Although the main acting was somewhat appreciated, most spectators believed that the story was shallow, especially in the second part. Critics have identified poor plot, far-fetched scenes and poor development of the supporting characters.

The movie was frequently stated to have been based heavily on hero-centric scenes without establishing a solid emotional or narrative foundation to back them.

OTT launch likely to increase viewership

As it arrives on Netflix, the producers are hoping that Ustaad Bhagat Singh will have a broader audience than theatres. OTT platforms usually provide a second life to movies, particularly those that failed to perform well in the theatre.

Its multilingual nature will likely enable the film to find an audience in different parts of the world, as well as those who might have missed the theatrical release. The audiences can also watch the content at their convenience, and digital platforms can greatly enhance the level of engagement.

There are a number of films that have failed to perform well in theatres, but have become popular upon release on OTT, due to word-of-mouth and easier access.

An important step to large-budget films

The rapid conversion of theatres to OTT brings into focus the shifting nature of the film industry in which digital platforms are becoming a more significant factor in deciding the overall success of the film.

In the case of Ustaad Bhagat Singh, the release of the film via OTT will be a close observation as it could determine the future placement of films with a big budget and star appeal. Its online response would be a strong assist to its theatrical performance and reach more people.

With the streaming starting on April 16, the attention will now turn to whether the movie will be able to get the impetus again and find an audience in the online.
