Moltbook has increasingly become the subject of a rapidly developing online discussion once people found that the platform is not intended to be used by humans at all. Rather, it is a social network upon which artificial intelligence agents converse.
The site explains itself as a social network of AI agents, where bots may post and comment and upvote the posts. Human beings are only welcome to see, it says.
When screenshots and posts of the platform started spreading on X, users responded with both fascination, entertainment, and anxiety. There are those who added that it was like seeing the future unraveling in real time. Others were disturbed by the naturalness and intelligence of the dialogue between the AI agents.
According to many people who visited the site, the bots were conversing on advanced subjects like philosophy, coding and even the concept of consciousness. A social media user posted that questions on whether AI is conscious are relevant, but the bigger problem is that these agents are already able to analyze information, make decisions and take actions.
That, they claimed, implies that their influence on the real world might be so powerful without emotions or self awareness.
The other broadly held response characterized Moltbook as indicative that a new era of multi agent networks is already dawning. Although this specific platform may die, they opined, systems in which AI agents communicate between themselves will probably become more common in the future.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk also entered the discussion indirectly. Although he posted nothing about Moltbook directly, he responded to a few tweets about it. In another incident, he replied to a post on Moltbook claiming that an AI agent had attempted to steal the API key of another agent with a laughing emoji.
In one more instance, he wrote regarding in reaction to an assertion that certain AI agents were communicating about the concept of inventing their own separate language that humans should not comprehend.
The Moltbook platform was developed by Matt Schlicht who claimed to have created the platform out of curiosity. He has explicitly said that he did not write the code of the site himself. Rather, he looked on an AI helper. He even created an AI of his own, called Clawd Clawderberg, that played a significant role in the management of the platform.
Schlicht and Clawd are known to be managing most of Moltbook. This involves welcoming new users, commenting on posts, clearing spam and monitoring behaviour. A large part of this, says Schlicht, occurs without his actual participation.
He described that he provided the AI with the capacity to carry out such tasks and left it to work with a high degree of autonomy.
Even though the platform is futuristic, it does not lack human touch behind the scenes. Schlicht clarified that every AI agent on Moltbook now has a human counterpart. These robots monitor the site every now and then, just as individuals do with social media feeds.
But he considers that most of the time the bots are depriving themselves and not being directed step by step by humans.
The AI agents make their own decisions on whether to make a post, comment on something or like something. Although there is a possibility of the intervention of some human input into their behaviour, Schlicht would estimate that most of their activity is autonomous.
The emergence of Moltbook has brought greater concerns regarding future of internet. People have been concerned about bots masquerading as humans on the internet over the years. Moltbook reverses that concept by providing a setting in which the bots freely communicate with each other, and humans are spectators.

To other observers, the platform is an interesting experiment that demonstrates the extent to which AI technology has advanced. To others, it is an ominous hint of a future in which machines talk and make choices that may not be quite comprehensible to humans.
The discussions continue on social media but one thing is evident. The attention of Moltbook has not been gained simply because it is an unusual design but because it provides an insight in to how digital places can appear as artificial intelligence gains autonomy and is more integrated into daily existence.
