National Youth Day marks the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda who was born on 12 January 1863. Since 1984 when it was proclaimed an official holiday by the Government of India, it has been celebrated every year since then.
The teachings of Swami Vivekananda are founded on the teachings of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa who was a significant figure in Hinduism. He contributed greatly to the spread of Indian thought (Vedanta) and yoga throughout the world. He is the embodiment of the philosophy of Universalism as a Way of Life.
The National Youth Day is held throughout the country in the form of programmes organized by educational establishments, youth organizations, and government agencies. They are discussions, conferences, seminars and other educational and cultural activities.

PMModi To Address Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue
According to an official government press release, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the last session of Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026, on January 12. It will take place at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and the Prime Minister would be present at around 4:30 pm.
In the press release, the Prime Minister quoted saying that he will meet around 3,000 youths in the country. It is also anticipated that the youth representatives of the Indian diaspora will be present.
The selected participants will present the finals to the Prime Minister based on the ten thematic tracks that will enhance the youths perspectives and practical thoughts regarding the areas of national interest. The debate is part of a series of state-oriented initiatives to provide the youth with the channel through which they can communicate.
The thematic tracks are the different subjects of governance, education, technology, sustainability and social development. The officials further added that the arrangements of the National Youth Day are being made at the states and the Union Territories and the involvement of the schools and the youth organisations.

The programmes are being conducted as per schedules that are provided by respective authorities. The government has not mentioned that the format of the observance will change in 2026 as of 2021. The local institutions and administrations are supposed to provide information about the local events.
