A 27-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando died after her husband allegedly attacked her at their West Delhi home. This incident has devastated her family and raised major questions about domestic violence and dowry-related abuse.
Kajal Chaudhary, who worked with the Special Cell of Delhi Police, was four months pregnant. The incident happened on January 22 at her place in Mohan Garden.
Her brother Nikhil, a constable at Parliament Street Police Station, says he overheard the attack during a phone call.
Nikhil mentioned that Ankur, Kajal’s husband, first called him, telling him to get his sister in line. Worried, Nikhil immediately rang Kajal. She started sharing her issues at home, which she usually avoided doing. Ankur got angry when he realised she was talking about their problems and took the phone.
Nikhil is haunted by what he heard next.
He reported that Ankur told him to record the call, saying it would be good for the police. Then he stated he was killing his sister and that the police couldn’t do anything. After that, Nikhil heard Kajal scream before the call cut off.
Minutes later, Ankur called again, saying Kajal was dead and telling him to come to the hospital. The family, along with police, rushed there. Kajal had bad head injuries and other wounds.
Police said Ankur hit Kajal’s head against a door frame and then attacked her with a heavy weight. She was sent to different hospitals, but doctors said her condition was critical. She was admitted to a Ghaziabad hospital, where she died five days later on January 27.
Ankur, who works in the Ministry of Defence in Delhi Cantonment, was arrested soon after.
The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is now with Kajal’s parents. The family shared that the child doesn’t know his mother is dead. They’ll raise him and tell him the truth when he’s old enough to understand.
Kajal’s family says Ankur and his family had been abusing and harassing her for dowry for a long time. Her father, Rakesh, said they gave gifts during the wedding, like a motorcycle, jewelry, and money. Despite this, he said, the in-laws kept asking for more.
He claimed they said their son could have gotten a car if he had married someone else. Later, his daughter even got a car, but the abuse didn’t stop.
Kajal’s mother said the family spent about ₹20 lakh on the wedding and even took out loans. She also said Ankur borrowed ₹5 lakh from Kajal. She wants justice for her daughter, who went through a lot.
Nikhil added that Kajal had been hurt before. About five months ago, Ankur slapped her. He went to their house and asked her to come home, but Ankur said sorry and promised not to do it again.
The family also said that Kajal was forced to do housework while pregnant after coming home from her police work. Nikhil said she was cooking, washing clothes, and cleaning even while pregnant.

Kajal and Ankur had known each other since college in Panipat and married in November 2023. They moved to Mohan Garden in December 2024 because of fights in their hometown in Haryana. But, according to the family, their issues didn’t stop.
Police shared that money problems and arguments were part of the couple’s issues. A case was filed at Mohan Garden police station based on Nikhil’s report. Ankur was first charged with attempted murder. After Kajal’s death, the charges are being changed to murder.
The incident has upset many, especially in the police, where Kajal was known as a brave officer. Her family wants the accused to be punished and justice for their daughter, who died in a violent act.
