Karnataka Political Buzz: Shivakumar Likely Next CM After Resignation

The Governor of Karnataka, Mr. Gehlot, accepted the resignation of Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar to take the lead now. Congress leaders are now discussing what to do ahead and the formation of new cabinet.

Mr. Siddaramaiah is expected to meet the Congress leadership today to discuss the formation of the next government and the appointment of the new Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.

Karnataka governor Thawaarchand Gehlot accepted  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation on Friday 29th May 2026. He will continue to be the caretaker Chief Minister until new Chief Minister is appointed. The deputy chief minister D.K. Shivakumar will soon replace Mr. Siddaramaiah.

A statement from Lok Bhavan said that his resignation is accepted, and the council of ministers led by him are now dissolved. Mr. Siddaramaiah gave is resignation to special secretary of the governor on 28th May 2026 while Mr. Gehlot was away in Indore due to some personal reasons.

Now Mr. Siddaramaiah will meet the Congress today to discuss on the formation of the new government and the next president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

In Delhi Mr. Siddaramaiah first contacted congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on 29th May, He was accompanied by ministers K.J. George and Priyank Kharge, along with his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah who is an MLC.

Same day, later, Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar are anticipating to meet Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at former Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s official residence in Delhi regarding the compositionof the new cabinet.
