International Men’s Day 2025: Meaning, History and Celebration Date

International Men’s Day 2025 will be celebrated on 19 November so as to honour men’s contributions to the society, family and also the community. The day also helps to highlight men’s health, various positive role models and even the need to address issues affecting boys and men globally.

International Men’s Day 2025 is an important global day that has been dedicated to recognising the contributions, struggles and positive roles of various men in society.

It is celebrated every year on 19 November, and the day aims to promote awareness about men’s mental health, emotional well-being, family responsibilities, as well as community service and gender equality.

It also serves as a reminder that men also tend to face social pressure, various kinds of stereotypes and even various health issues that need attention and open discussion.

The history of International Men’s Day dates back to 1999, when it was founded by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a professor from Trinidad and Tobago.

He therefore selected 19 November to honour his father’s birthday and also marked a historic event that promoted peace and harmony in his country.

Over time, the observance has spread across more than 80 countries, thus finally gaining support from educational institutions, various organisations and even the communities worldwide.

The day is not designed to compete with International Women’s Day, but was with the intention to create a balanced conversation about gender issues.

It also helps to highlight areas such as men’s mental health awareness, various types of suicide prevention, preserve healthy relationships, give respect, equality and positive male role models.

It also encourages boys and even young men all over to develop a sense of responsibility, empathy and even a sense of good character.

In 2025, International Men’s Day will also be observed on Wednesday, 19 November.

Schools, universities, NGOs and workplaces may also on this day organise seminars, campaigns, health check-ups, awareness events and various kinds of appreciation programs to acknowledge all the kinds of roles men play in families and society.

Many communities would also use this opportunity to discuss various types of men’s health challenges, encourage any kind of open dialogues about emotional well-being and most importantly, help to break long-standing stigmas associated with seeking help.
