A shocking alleged gangrape case has come to light in Delhi where a woman accused the driver and conductor of sexually attacking her during a Delhi train journey. The bus is also seized and Delhi Police have arrested the accused in the matter.
It’s reported that the incident occurred on May 12. Later, the injured man approached police and lodged a formal complaint after which an FIR was lodged and both were arrested, police sources said.
The woman was traveling in the sleeper coach of the train when the alleged attack happened, investigators said. Police have not released details regarding the specific bus route, stop or location of the alleged crime along the bus route in the trip.

The woman is married with three children and had a medical examination before a statement was taken. Arrests were made after the formalities were completed, officials said.
Driver And Conductor In Custody
Both the accused, which include the bus driver and conductor, are being interrogated by Delhi Police. Officials are looking for evidence recovered from the car, such as forensic evidence and other materials that could provide information about what happened.
Police sources indicated the sleeper bus that was involved in the case had been seized for forensic examination. The police are also seeking to find out:
- Whether or not the bus was running a regular passenger route.
- If there are other people with you when the alleged assault happens
- If there is electronic evidence or CCTV footage, whether it is available.
- The exact timeline of the journey
Medical and forensic reports will be a key factor in investigators’ work during the probe.
The safety of passengers in private buses is a concern
The case has yet again brought into question the safety of women when travelling in private buses, particularly in sleeper buses that run overnight between Delhi and neighbouring states.
Over the past few years, the following questions have arisen:
- The lack of any system of passenger verification.
- Poor buses monitoring, Low quality of monitoring within sleeper buses.
- Poorly positioned CCTV cameras in private cars.
- The private operators are hardly accountable.
The incident has also brought a number of previous crime incidents involving public and private transport systems in the national capital under public scrutiny where safety protocols were observed or not and were found to be weak and not enforced.
Investigation Underway
Delhi Police indicated that the investigation was ongoing and further details will be released following a search of the accused and examining the forensic evidence. The name of the accused, along with the survivor, has not been revealed.
