According to a recent report published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India’s wireless (mobile) subscriber base grew in December 2025, with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel emerging as the biggest winners. However, because Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) and Vodafone Idea Ltd. are still reporting net losses, the subscriber movement has remained uneven between operators.
In December 2025, Airtel added 5.42 million new customers, according to TRAI’s monthly figures. Over the course of the month, Jio added roughly 2.96 million telecom customers. Both of them had significant gains that were dispersed over several licensed service areas.
In comparison, throughout the month, Vodafone Idea experienced a net loss of approximately 9.4 lakh wireless users.

Jio has almost twice as many broadband users as Airtel.

With 13.8 million users, Jio is still the biggest wired broadband provider in the nation and keeps adding more users each month than its competitors.
During the month, the wireline category also showed some growth. In December 2025, there were 47.37 million wireline customers, up from 47.05 million in November, or a 0.68% monthly growth rate.

In December, there was a net increase of 8.21 million wireless customers, including mobile and fixed wireless access (FWA), reaching 1.258 billion.
