The second generation of the famous tracking device, the AirTag, has been introduced by Apple and comes with several significant improvements in order to make the gadget easier to use by its users to locate their daily items. The new AirTag 2 is the same size, but with a better range, a more powerful speaker, increased protections in privacy, and a smarter way to share.

Today in India, the AirTag 2 can be ordered via Apple’s official Web site and the Apple store application. It will also be distributed in Apple Store stores and authorised dealers later in the week. The gadget comes with a price of Rs 3,790 one unit and a 4 unit pack is priced at Rs 12,900.

Apple is also selling a FineWoven Key Ring to accompany the AirTag in various colours such as fox orange, midnight purple, navy, moss and black which cost Rs 3,900.

The AirTag 2 is compatible with a compatible iPhone (iOS 26, or later), iPad (iPadOS 26, or later). The tracker requires the user to be logged in with the iCloud account and the Find My option turned on to access the tracker.

The second generation ultra wideband chip is one of the largest upgrades in the AirTag 2. It is the same chip that is installed in the iPhone 17 models and Apple Watch Ultra 3. It has a maximum tracking range of 50 per cent more and gives more accurate location data.

It can be explained by the fact that the users will be able to locate their lost things (keys, bags, wallets, etc.) faster and further.

Precise Search is also the first feature to be activated on Apple-compatible watches. It is now possible to know the location of a misplaced item through vibrations, visual and sound notifications right on its wrist. This would be more convenient as one can find things without the hassle of retrieving a phone.

Apple has also redesigned the inbuilt speaker. It is now 50 per cent louder and can be heard twice the distance that the previous version had. This facilitates the process of locating something even in a busy or noisy place. Another change is the introduction of a new alert sound which will allow the users to identify the sound better.

One of the new features is Share Object Location. This enables the users to share the location of an item, which is attached with an AirTag, temporarily with trusted persons or organisations.

As an illustration, travellers are able to post the position of misplaced luggage with airlines in a bid to accelerate the process of recovery. Apple claims to already have over 50 airlines collaborating with it in order to facilitate this feature.

AirTag 2 still utilizes the Apple Find My network that uses millions of Apple devices in the global market to assist in the search of lost items in a safe and non-traceable manner. Apple has gone an extra mile to secure privacy by introducing end to end encryption, rotating Bluetooth identifiers, and alerts to help it prevent unwanted tracking.

The device too is a product of environmental endeavors by Apple. It has an outer housing that is manufactured using 85 per cent recycled plastic, magnets are manufactured using 100 per cent recycled elements of rare earths and the packaging is entirely fibre based. Notably, the AirTag 2 is compatible with the existing AirTag accessories.
