Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign is in jeopardy after their crushing 61 run defeat to India; based on the outcome of Group A, they may be eliminated.

With three victories from three games, India has already advanced to the Super Eights, while Pakistan is in third place with two victories and one defeat.

The final group matches are vital to Pakistan’s tournament survival since the USA’s victory over Namibia has further narrowed the competition. Pakistan and the United States currently share the same number of points.

However, the USA, who have already completed all of their group stage games, are now in second place on the points table because of their superior net run rate.

There’s a pretty disappointed dressing room in there at the moment, because they know how much it means to Pakistan, said Mike Hesson, the head coach of Pakistan, acknowledging that the players were devastated by the loss.

Despite their recent winning streak, he continued, India was just superior that day. We are aware that Pakistan vs. India is a major event. He said, Obviously, we were confident after winning five straight games before today, but we were outplayed today.

Ishan Kishan’s 77 helped India post 175-7, with help from Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav.

Usman Khan top scored with 44 as Pakistan fell to 13-3 and were bowled out for 114.

I think the ball was spinning quite a bit initially and we started off well, but I think the way Kishan played, he took the game away from us, Hesson said in defense of the choice to bowl first.

In order to survive, Pakistan must now defeat Namibia in their last group game on Wednesday. They will be eliminated if they lose. Both teams will exchange points and Pakistan will advance to the Super 8s if the rain cancels the game.

We have to pick ourselves up and make sure that we’re very good in two or three days, Hesson said, urging the team to bounce back fast.

We have played some good cricket in the lead up to this World Cup, so we’re confident to do well in the tournament, he said, adding that confidence still exists.
