A shocking case has come up of honour-based violence that has also emerged from Parsa Jagir village in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her teenage brother after he found her speaking to a male friend over the phone.
The incident has left the whole community in disbelief and shock as details of the crime continue to unfold.
According to the various sources and police, the girl had recently been scolded by her mother for the same reason, and tensions within the family had recently been rising.
Investigators have also revealed that the brother, with the alleged support of his mother, has also tied the girl’s hands and legs, placed her inside a sack, and then transported her in a car.
A cousin had reportedly assisted them during the act. They then dumped her body near a roadside area in Bangawan and deliberately ran the car over her to make it appear like a road accident.
The brutality of the whole incident, which had been staged, shocked the villagers, who later informed the police and demanded a proper inquiry.
Police teams had also conducted a detailed investigation that eventually led to the arrest of both the brother and the mother.
The cousin who helped transport the body is still missing. During questioning, the arrested duo confessed to their involvement, which strengthened the murder case registered against them.
The authorities have also been involved in this and have continued their efforts to locate the missing accomplice.
This tragic incident highlights the persistent problem of honour-based violence and patriarchal mindsets in certain parts of society.
