Tobacco Baron’s Son Shivam Mishra Arrested by Police in Kanpur Lamborghini Accident Case

The 26 year old son of a well-known tobacco businessman, Shivam Mishra, has been arrested by the Kanpur police in relation to a high speed chase where Lamborghini crashed with three people injured in the Ring Wala Chauraha.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Srivastava, informed that Mishra was in the city and quickly acted to arrest him. It will take him to court.

The crash took place on Sunday when the Lamborghini Revuelto which is said to belong to a company connected with tobacco exporter KK Mishra is supposed to have lost control.

Investigators and eyewitnesses state that the vehicle went into an autorickshaw and a parked motorcycle, ran up the roadbed and hit the people before halting. Tauseef Ahmed, an autorickshaw driver, and two motorcycle passengers, Vishal and Sonu Tripathi, were injured.

A FIR had already been filed against an unknown driver on the basis of provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita on negligent driving, endangering life and causing hurt by any dangerous means.

According to police, their investigation later found that Shivam Mishra was the driver and his name later became part of the case. Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal confirmed that the car is impounded.

The effect was described as harsh, as witnesses reported that the motorcycle rider was thrown many feet into the air.

Other bystanders said that security guards riding in the next car arrived at the scene right after the accident, forced the Lamborghini window wide open, and dragged Mishra out, unconscious, while he was in the car.

Locals charged them with trying to take him out of the scene, which allegedly resulted in a fight that brought him to a hospital. Footage of videos shot by bypassers and extensively circulated on social media seem to indicate that private guards are removing him out of the driver’s seat.

Police indicated that medical examinations and forensic analysis would determine whether Mishra was under the influence of alcohol or not.

Authorities also confirmed that they are checking allegations of a pre-existing medical condition. The family states that Mishra experienced a seizure when driving and that he had similar outbursts over the past few months.

His attorney has presented an alternate version, which refutes the claim that Mishra was driving and states that a chauffeur was in the car. The defence has filed a court application and legal action is likely to take place.

Gwaltoli Station House Officer Santosh Gaur was punished the previous day over procedural lapses, and the arrest followed. The police commissioner added that the police would also look into the contribution of transport officials should the medical tests prove that Mishra might not have been in good health to drive.

The case has also received more coverage since the Mishra family had previously been scrutinized during raids by the Income Tax Department in March 2024, with luxury cars and cash confiscated at properties connected to the business group.
