Lucky Oberoi, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead in broad daylight on Friday in Jalandhar, Punjab, when he was fired upon by unknown assailants riding a two wheeler outside a Gurdwara.
Initial reports state that Oberoi was hit by five gunshots while in his automobile and that he was the target of several gunfire fired at him outside the Gurdwara in Model Town. After receiving care at a private hospital right away, he passed away from his wounds.
In addition to being a financier, he was engaged in the real estate industry. Oberoi resided in Jalandhar’s Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar neighborhood.
According to preliminary information, the terrorists arrived on a two wheeler and started shooting at Oberoi as he was parking his car outside the Gurdwara. Police officials responded quickly to the event. Shortly after receiving the information, a police squad arrived at the scene and started looking into the matter.
The wife of Lucky Oberoi had run unsuccessfully as an AAP candidate in the last municipal elections. Police suspect personal animosity, according to people familiar with the crime, who also mentioned that the attackers and the victim knew one another.
Following Oberoi’s murder in Jalandhar during the day, Partap Singh Bajwa, the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, harshly attacked the state administration. According to him, Punjab’s law and order situation has collapsed under the tenure of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Shehzad Poonawalla, national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated after the incident that law and order in complete collapse in Punjab.

Bikram Singh Majithia, the leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, described the incident as a total collapse of law and order and posted on X, saying, In another murderous day, @AAPPunjab leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead in Model Town Jalandhar by two attackers who fired eight to ten bullets on him. In Punjab, this has become the new standard. Take someone’s life anywhere you want.
