Kerala Ex-Officer and Motivational Speaker Philip Mampad Detained Under POCSO Act

A motivational speaker and former police officer has been taken into custody in Kerala’s Malappuram district in connection with a case under the POCSO Act. The action followed a complaint filed by a minor, after which the investigation was transferred from Kozhikode to Nilambur.

On Friday, a motivational speaker and ex-police officer was arrested, in relation to a case that had been registered under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act in Nilambur of Kerala, the police officials said.

Philip Mampad, the suspect, has been active in carrying out personality development and motivational seminars to the youth both face-to-face and online. Investigators state that the act was carried out after a minor had complained.

Depending on the severity of the charges, the police took immediate procedural actions that resulted in his arrest to investigate him.

A day before, the case had been registered at the Chevayur police station in Kozhikode. It was then handed over to the Nilambur police based on jurisdictional factors and the location that was linked to the complaint. The confirmation of the officials was that this transfer was made to give a more focused and smooth investigation.

According to police sources at Nilambur, the parents of the minor girl had filed the complaint. A case under POCSO Act was registered after a preliminary verification.

Officer added that the offender is currently in custody where he is being interrogated. More details, they added, will be revealed after the arrest is registered and the lawful processes are done.

The investigators were very careful of releasing information at this point citing that the case was sensitive and that the identity of the survivor had to be kept confidential. They underscored that investigations are still going on and that they are going into every detail of the complaint.

Philip Mampad had previously worked in the state police as a Sub Inspector. He then transitioned into the mentoring and motivational training field after he chose voluntary retirement.

He had over the years developed a public profile giving talks to students and youth on matters affecting their personal development, discipline and career orientation.

The rise has drawn the attention of the area due to his prior experience as a law enforcement officer and his involvement with local youths. But police repeated that investigation was going to be done in strict lines with the evidence and statements gathered in the course of the investigation.

The authorities also advised the people not to panic and engage in speculations but leave the law to run its course. They observed that the crimes against the minors need to be handled carefully and that they would make appropriate updates at the right time.

More legal action on the case will be anticipated after the initial period of questioning and records regarding the arrest.
