The winter conditions in North India are intense with the temperatures plummeting rapidly in various states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that parts of Delhi had a minimum temperature of below 3 degrees Celsius on Sunday, and some places in Rajasthan had gone below the freezing point.
Ayanagar in the capital of the nation was the coldest point with a minimum of 2.9 degrees Celsius. Palam was right behind its 3 degrees Celsius. The biting cold was also felt in other areas of Delhi whereby individuals were forced to remain indoors in the early morning and evening hours.

On Monday, there is a quotient of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius as the highest temperature in the city and 2 to 4 degrees Celsius as minimum temperature that might be experienced. There is also a high risk of shallow to moderate fog in the morning and this may interfere with visibility as well as disrupt traffic in certain places.
Even worse conditions were experienced in Rajasthan where cold to severe cold wave were registered in isolated locations. Pratapgarh was the coldest place in the state with a minimum of minus 2 degrees Celsius. The local meteorological office also reported that according to Barmer, there was freezing of conditions with a temperature of minus 1 degree Celsius.
The cold wave was also experienced by other northern states. Temperatures dropped to below zero degrees Celsius in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand particularly in the high altitude regions. The state of Punjab and Haryana recorded temperatures that were almost at freezing point, which made the life of people even more uncomfortable.
The IMD has indicated that extreme cold that is currently being experienced will probably continue a few days. Cold wave conditions can persist in some regions of northern part of India and the people have been recommended to take essential measures, particularly those who are old, children and those with health complications.
Even during cold weather in Delhi, the quality of air was still the issue. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city was 291 at 4 pm according to the Central Pollution Control Board, which is in its category of poor. Low temperatures and poor quality of the air may aggravate the risk of respiratory issues.
