22-Year-Old Indian-Origin IIT Madras Graduate, Reported Missing in United States

Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a student from Karnataka at the University of California, Berkeley and an alumnus of IIT Madras, has been missing in Berkeley since February 10. The Consulate General of India, San Francisco is working with his family and local authorities to trace him.

A Karnataka-based Indian post graduate student is reported missing in the United States, which has caused panic among his relatives, friends and diplomats. The victim is a student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah who is doing higher education at the University of California, Berkeley and he was last seen in the city of Berkeley on February 10.

Saketh is a bright and promising young scholar with good education background who had come to America to further his studies. He studied his engineering at IIT Madras which is one of the most prestigious institutions in India before commencing his masters degree.

People who have known him, testify that he was never less concerned with research and innovation and had greater project plans in his future.

Local reports indicated that he was last seen in an area that was not very far off the university campus and that was the 1700 block of Dwight Way. The police have issued a rudimentary portrait to locate him. Saketh is between six feet one inch tall, and has short black hair and brown eyes.

Police have also shown that the matter is being taken seriously and have remarked that he might be in danger. They are also calling on anyone with information to present it as soon as possible.

The Consulate General of India, San Francisco has recognized the case and assured that it is following the case. The consulate in an official communication indicated that it is highly concerned with the disappearance and that it has kept in close contact with the family and the local law enforcement agencies.

Officials further added that all possible efforts are being being done to trace the student and guarantee his safety.

Relatives and well wishers are anxious back home in Karnataka where the news has been received. Universities and authorities usually play a crucial role in providing fast coordination to families of international students in the case of the emergencies, and this case once again proves the significance of support systems to international students.

Friends say that Saketh is honest, diligent and a techno maniac. His scholarly passions are advanced materials, semiconductors and upcoming fields of deep tech.
