In the early hours of Monday morning, the usually quiet streets around the paramilitary headquarters in Peshawar were destroyed by the deafening blasts and gunfire from a shameless terrorist attack.
Gunmen, aided by suicide bombers, stormed the Federal Constabulary’s main base in the northwestern city near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan.
The attack began with the explosion of a suicide bomber at the main entrance, instantly drawing attention and triggering chaos.
As security personnel scattered to respond, two more suicide bombers infiltrated the compound. Before they even had a chance to neutralize the situation, another suicide bomber and assailants got in a fierce firefight with the paramilitary forces.
Tragically, the repercussions led to claim the lives of our three brave officers who stood their ground to protect the complex.
Leaving behind several injured. But quick medical and security interventions prevented even greater casualties.
This paramilitary headquarters is situated in a densely populated area, close to a military barracks. Even then the assailants were able to infiltrate our compound leaving behind a question mark on our national security.
By looks of it we can see that the attack was particularly alarming for both civilians and security agencies. Despite the sudden violence, the rapid containment of the attackers by Pakistan’s law enforcement showcased remarkable discipline and readiness in the face of terror.
Officials have requested anonymity as there is an ongoing investigation. The swift action of Pakistan’s military forces have confirmed that the swift action prevented the gunmen from gaining a stronger foothold inside the base.
The government and top political leaders expressed their criticism of the attack and even honored the courage of the security personnel who sacrificed their lives. Calls for renewed vigilance and resolve against terrorism are echoing across the country as citizens mourned the loss of their dearest soldiers.
Peshawar, as the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has often found itself on the frontline of Pakistan’s struggle against militancy.
