On Monday, February 16, 2026, gold prices in India remained stable near record levels as demand for safe haven assets abroad counterbalanced a weakening home retail market. Silver prices resumed their steep decline, reaching their lowest points in six weeks, while gold held onto recent gains.

As investors balanced the strengthening rupee against the geopolitical unpredictability in the Middle East, 24 karat gold opened at ₹1,57,900 per 10 grams in the nation’s capital.

24 Karat gold is currently trading at Rs 15,659 per gramme, down Rs 131 from Rs 15,790 yesterday. The price of 8 grams has decreased by Rs 1,048 from Rs 1,26,320 to Rs 1,25,272.

Ten kilos cost Rs 1,56,590, which is Rs 1,310 less than the original price of Rs 1,57,900. At the same time, 100 grams of 24 carat gold cost Rs 15,65,900, which is Rs 13,100 less than the previous price of Rs 15,79,000.

What’s Behind The Drop in Gold Rate Today?

Gold fell to over $5,010 an ounce on Monday on the global market as investors booked profits following a 2.5 percent increase the day before.

Weaker than expected US CPI data had bolstered the earlier spike and raised prospects of additional rate reduction by the US Federal Reserve. Currently, somewhat more than two rate cuts this year are being factored in by markets.

In order to get more precise clues about when the next interest rate decrease will occur, investors are now keeping a tight eye on the release of the FOMC meeting minutes, the US GDP advance estimate, and PCE inflation data.

The attention is also on geopolitical developments, with the US led discussions to end the crisis in Ukraine and nuclear talks between the US and Iran set to start on Tuesday.

Gold prices are still high and generate a limited number of fresh buy orders, but they also represent the ongoing unpredictability of currency fluctuations around the world. However, because of occasional profit taking, the price may have limited short term upward potential, according to Prashant Mishra, Agnam Advisors’ founder and CEO.
