Due to his involvement in the check bounce case, actor Rajpal Yadav has been in the news. The actor, who has been going through a difficult period due to financial and legal issues, was called to turn himself in at Tihar jail in connection with a cheque bounce case involving about Rs 2.5 crore.
The actor reportedly delivered an impassioned statement just before turning himself in to the police, according to a recent story.
Yadav broke down when he addressed the matter, saying, Sir, kya karoon? Paise nahin hain mere paas. Upaay nahin dikhta aur koi. Yahan hum sab akele hain, sir. No friends are present. I’m on my own to handle this situation.
For those unaware, the legal dispute began in 2010 when Yadav took out a loan of Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his filmmaking endeavors, Ata Pata Laapata. Due to the film’s poor box office performance, there was significant financial strain and trouble repaying the debt. Consequently, a number of the actor’s checks allegedly bounced, leading to legal action.
Rajpal Yadav and his spouse were found guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act by a Magistrate’s Court in April 2018 and given a six month prison sentence. The case stretched on for years, with the overdue amount growing to about Rs 9 crore, despite the actor contesting the ruling and seeking relief through numerous appeals.
Yadav was able to pay back some of the loan at this time, including Rs 75 lakh in 2025. His lack of sincerity in settling the dispute, however, caused the court to suspect his intent due to his frequent delays and missed deadlines.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma denied Yadav’s last minute request for a one week delay to raise finances on February 4, 2026. The actor was ordered to surrender immediately after the court made it clear that recurrent leniency could not be given, regardless of one’s level of renown.
