Bhooth Bangla has also opened well in theatres providing Akshay Kumar with one of his best openings in recent years. Directed by Priyadarshan, the horror-comedy has been able to garner approximately ₹23.9 crore in global theatres on its first day, which promises a good future.
The movie was released several weeks following the weeks of domination by Dhurandhar: The Revenge which had dominated the box office charts. This opening has seen Bhooth Bangla take over the no. 1 position and the Ranveer Singh starrer ends its long-run.
Good opening due to previews and the weekend momentum
The first day India net collection of the film was estimated to be ₹12.25 crore. To top this, paid preview screenings added about 3.5 crore, and the domestic net revenue reached nearly 15.75 crore. This is a bit higher than what was early anticipated in the trade, which had pegged the opening at the ₹15 crore mark.
On a gross collection the film has earned about ₹18.9 crore in India and on foreign markets it has earned about ₹5 crore. This brings the total worldwide collection to around ₹23.9 crore for Day 1.
The opening suggests that the film has been able to appeal to both urban and mass audiences particularly due to its blend of comedy and horror a genre that has gained renewed attention in recent years.
Averts four weeks of Dhurandhar
Performance of the Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been directly affected by the success of Bhooth Bangla that had been keeping a firm grip on the theatres over almost a month. On its 30th day, the Ranveer Singh film saw collections drop to around ₹2.7 crore net.

Although it has decreased, Dhurandhar has still been a colossal success on the whole with its total net collection surpassing 1,100 crore. The emergence of a new release such as Bhooth Bangla has however evidently changed the focus of the audience.
This was one of the higher openings that Akshay Kumar has had since the pandemic.
To Akshay Kumar, the movie is a significant box office milestone. Bhooth Bangla has now entered the list of his top opening films in the post-pandemic phase. Though movies such as Sooryavanshi continue to dominate in terms of first day collections, this performance makes Bhooth Bangla one of his better recent performances.

According to industry observers, the opening of the movie was influenced by the delayed release. The makers had initially planned to release it in the theatres earlier but decided to push it a week later in order to avoid a head-on collision with Dhurandhar. This choice seems to have favoured it, making the film have a window with a clearer view of attracting audiences.
Buzz is added by Priyadarshan-Akshay reunion
It is also the first time that Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar reunited in a decade. The two have already released several successful comedy hits, such as Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Their reunion formed a pre-release excitement among fans that was strong.

Besides Akshay Kumar, there is a supporting cast in this film (Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rajpal Yadav) which contributes to its popularity in various groups of audiences.
Weekend performance now important
Having a strong opening, the attention is now on the weekend numbers. With good word of mouths and attendance by the family, trade analysts posit that Bhooth Bangla will experience an increase in collections during Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the film will perform in the long run, depending on its performance after the first weekend. Future releases and how it will be received by the audience will be one of the major factors influencing its ultimate box office performance.
To date, Bhooth Bangla has succeeded in beginning with confidence to provide a much needed boost to both Akshay Kumar and the industry at the box office.
