CBSE Postpones Class 10 and 12 Exams Starting March 3 - New Schedule Announced

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has deferred the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations which were to commence from March 3, 2026 or Millions students across the country have been announced with a new schedule.

The move is part of the board’s efforts to adapt the national examination calendar in response to administrative planning, coordination with another Board like CBSE, festival considerations, and agile preparedness by the students among others.

The re-scheduled exams will have a delayed start, as per the revised notice, in order to give students more time to prepare. This revision will ensure a more balanced schedule in contrast to the vocational and the core subjects and also between candidates within core subjects papers, CBSE said adding it will also reduce chances of an overlap with competitive examinations held in mornings.

The delay applies to both secondary and senior secondary students studying in schools that come under the board across India, who are taking exams on core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science and elective papers. Students, parents and teachers have been advised to visit the official CBSE website and their respective school notice board for detailed timetable and subject-wise dates.

Why the Change Was Made

The board’s decision to reschedule the exam calendar comes after consultations with education experts, principals’ bodies and field officers who said that there should be better preparedness among students as well as smoother conduct of the board examination process.

The revised timetable is a welcome relief to the several groups of students who complained that the earlier start of exams from March 3, overlapping with other state and university entrance tests, followed by long break affected their preparation.

CBSE officials stated that they are committed towards the process of making conducting exam fair, transparent and an examination being candidate friendly. The new schedule provides a clearer break between the session, which integrates better with administrative consolidated needs and students convenience.

What Students Should Do Now

With changes in motion, experts who advise students suggest that they:

  • Read the revised schedule carefully when it is announced.
  • Spend the extra time you`ve made revising effectively.
  • Solve last year’s papers and subject-wise mock tests
  • Study schedule with rest and break periods Keep your study routine healthy by taking adequate breaks and sleeping well.

School counsellors and teachers, on their part, have urged students to not get bogged down by the re-scheduling, pointing out that good planning and sustained revision continues to be crucial for success in both Class 10 and Class 12 board exams.

Official Communication and Next Steps

CBSE has also said that the detailed exam schedule will be released soon on its official website. Schools will be alerted to this information through official channels to inform students and parents. Students are encouraged to remain in regular contact with their schools for individual advice and assistance.

The board further added that all other extant examination instructions (from duration of the exam to marking schemes and question papers) would remain unchanged. Only the dates are different a fact officials emphasized to avoid confusing students and teachers.

Reactions From the Education Community

The delay has elicited reactions from all over the education spectrum. The move has been received well by many teachers who feel that the longer preparation time will help students develop readiness especially in difficult subjects such as Mathematics and Science.

“I think this is a little tough for parents,” Pecos-Martin said, explaining that the earliest time was found to be in the best interest of students in order to ensure they have sufficient instructional time. “Not all DPSD families go here.” Parents have been kind of 50-50 on reaction, she said; either they are grateful for more summer or upset about not being able to plan academic calendars. “Any positive time buffer is a welcome one if it will relieve some stress,” said one parent, while another said alignment with entrance exam schedules is critical for competitive test takers.

As the new schedule crystallizes, students, educators and parents from around the country will be looking with rapt attention to when the official timetable is released. The board’s attempts to add clarity and support echo larger educational priorities in India, where board exams are a major marker for students on their academic and career paths.

While preparations are underway, students must make the most of this time, keep up their study routine and eagerly await for the next phase as they move to forward in academic life with assurance.
