Within the MyJio app, Reliance Jio has subtly added a new feature that lets users control call forwarding preferences straight from the app’s interface.
Customers who previously had to use dialer codes or default phone settings to enable or disable call forwarding services now have an extra layer of convenience thanks to this change.
Users may now set up voice and video call forwarding settings without going through the system menus on their smartphones thanks to this update. However, there is a significant condition attached to the function that could affect how users access it.
Call Forwarding Settings Now Available Within the MyJio App
The MyJio app’s newly added functionality can be accessed using the following navigation path:
MyJio > Profile > Mobile Preferences > Service Preferences > Voice and Video Call Forwarding
Multiple call forwarding options, including Always Forward When Busy When Unreachable and When Unanswered, are displayed to users once they are inside.
These options, which are now available through Jio’s own ecosystem, are comparable to what consumers normally see inside the native call forwarding menu on their smartphones.
The capability seems to be intended to make service control easier for users who might find it difficult to recall USSD based forwarding codes or navigate device level telecom settings.
Feature Works Only on Mobile Data Connection
There is a major drawback even though the MyJio app’s call forwarding features increase accessibility. Only when the user has a mobile data connection does the feature become active.
For security reasons, the app asks users to switch to mobile data before allowing them to access or configure call forwarding settings over WiFi.
This requirement raises the possibility that Reliance Jio is using its network layer to route the request rather than permitting app level changes over external internet connections.
This effectively means that in order to change forwarding choices from within the app, users must momentarily turn off WiFi and turn on mobile data.
Airtel Vi and BSNL Still Rely on Default Phone Settings
It’s important to note that other Indian telecom providers, such as Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL, already permit customers to use call forwarding services via the standard phone settings on iOS and Android smartphones.
Usually, these operators allow call forwarding via device menus or dialer based activation techniques that use common network codes.
Consumers can set up their phones to forward all incoming calls, forward when busy, forward when unavailable, or forward when calls are not answered.
As a result, the capability is broadly available without the need for a specialized operator app or authentication layer based on mobile data.
Network Led Service Control May Be the Next Step
Jio’s decision to integrate call forwarding and other service level controls into its application interface may be a sign of a larger trend toward app based telecom service management.
Instead than depending solely on device-level setups, telecom networks may seek to centralize network service controls within proprietary apps as digital customer contact points become more and more integrated.

The advantage for users is that they can control subscriptions, recharge services, network warnings, and call handling options all from a single interface, eliminating the need to go between system menus.
Nonetheless, the additional convenience provided by app driven service control is still slightly offset by the mobile data demand.
