History-sheeter Sehnawaz Malik, 26, passed away on February 4 while receiving treatment for severe burn injuries sustained in the January 27 explosion. A few days later, on February 10, his mother Lizatun Bibi (51), who was also gravely wounded, passed away at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The explosion of one or more crude explosives that were purportedly being built on the rooftop of Malik’s home seriously injured Malik, Bibi, Malik’s fiancée Truptimayee Mahal (23), and associate Amiya Mallick (27). Mallick and Mahal are receiving treated in a Bhubaneswar private hospital right now.
Malik had suffered severe burn injuries, according to the police. There were severe burn injuries on him. According to an Airfield police station officer, he passed away in the afternoon.
Investigators believe the incident happened during the preparation of rudimentary bombs. Malik was under police observation and had been released on bail approximately six months prior following a political altercation in Nayapalli.
He had seven prior criminal cases against him, including attempted murder and offenses under the Arms Act.

The scope and severity of the bomb, which left four people gravely injured, were demonstrated by CCTV footage of the strong explosion that shook the Sundarpada neighbourhood of the capital of Odisha on January 27. Later, two of them passed away while receiving treatment.
The video captures dense smoke plumes rising into the sky after a rapid explosion of flames erupting from behind water tanks placed on a residential building’s rooftop.
Residents raced out in fear after hearing a loud sound, suggesting that the explosion’s impact was powerful enough to send shockwaves through the neighborhood.
According to police sources, the explosion apparently happened on the rooftop during the handling of hazardous items. Before being moved to a private facility, four individuals who had suffered severe injuries were first admitted to Capital Hospital.
According to authorities, a woman and her kid passed away from their wounds a few days later while receiving treatment.
According to preliminary information, Shahnawaz Malik, his mother, another accomplice, and his associate Amiya Malik were allegedly involved in the production of explosive devices at the residence.
The discovery of gunpowder on the scene confirmed suspicions of bomb making activity.
The primary victim had a prior criminal history. They may have been building a bomb for some criminal operation they were allegedly planning.
DCP Jagmohan Meena previously stated that searches would be carried out to look for stashed explosives, adding that four individuals were hurt in the explosion while constructing the explosives.
With prior complaints filed against him, police verified Shahnawaz Malik’s criminal history.
NIA TAKES OVER INVESTIGATION
The National Investigation Agency has taken over the case and started a thorough investigation because of how terrible the incident was. Before the central agency intervened, local police first established a Special Investigation Team.
To pinpoint the precise cause of the explosion and ascertain whether a wider conspiracy was at play, authorities are carefully examining the CCTV footage and gathering forensic evidence. As the investigation goes on, Sundarpada and the surrounding area are now more secure.
Police are still looking into whether Malik had collaborators or was operating alone, as well as whether the devices were meant for political or criminal harm. Following the incident, authorities said, surveillance has been stepped up in critical areas of the city.

In the meantime, a video that allegedly captured the explosion’s moment has emerged, showing flames and mayhem on the rooftop. According to police, the video is being checked as part of the ongoing investigation.
