Staff Selection Commission has declared the SSC CGL Tier 1 Result 2025, candidates of shortlist for next level in recruitment process which is tier II.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has declared the SSC CGL Tier 1 Result 2025 much to the relief of lakhs of candidates who have appeared for the examination.
Along with the result, the commission also released the list of candidates shortlisted for Tier 2 exam which is next in line to be organised in one of India’s toughest government recruitment exam.
The CGL is an annual exam to recruit staff for various Group B and Group C posts in central government departments, ministries and organisations. With the announcement of the Tier 1 result, a new phase of recruitment commenced.
What the Tier 1 result means
Tier 1 exam is a computer-based examination comprising questions from quantitative aptitude, reasoning, English language and general awareness. Passing this stage will not mean selection, but that the candidate is eligible to take the Tier 2 examination.
Candidates clearing the Tier 1 exam are shortlisted as per category wise cut off that is fixed by SSC. The commission has also clarified that the shortlisting is purely based on merit and reservation rules.
Cut-off and selection process
SSC has also published the category-wise cutoff marks together with the result declaration. These cut-off values change according to:
- Number of vacancies
- Difficulty level of the examination
- Overall candidate performance
Aspirants who scored the same or above the cut-off marks are shortlisted to Tier 2.

What happens next
Those candidates who had made it through the Tier 1 will now undertake the Tier 2 examination, which has it’s own share of weight during final selection. Tier 2: This is also in ‘Computer Based Mode’ subject to the availability of network connection and a papers consisting of Questions on General Studies and General Awareness.
SSC has confirmed that dates for Tier 2 examination, admit card release date and exam city information will be released separately. It is therefore, melting out to the final shortlisted contenders that are wished to consider periodic updates here at single place and avoid missing any significant notice.
Advice for shortlisted candidates
As Tier 2 will come, candidates should:
- Get your Tier 1 broken down and analysed for weaknesses.
- Concentration on syllabus-related Tier 2 papers preparation.
- Mock tests and previous years question paper Practise.
- Stay updated with official notifications.
According to experts, regular revision and proper time management holds the key in clearing Tier 2, usually perceived as difficult.
For those who did not qualify
The candidates who couldn’t clear tier 1, do not loose hope. SSC CGL is extremely tough and candidates get through it in 2-5 tries. You should review your scorecards and know which area was weak to ensure that you prepare better for the next exams.
SSC also held other express exams in the year, so there is lot of chances for job hunters looking for govt jobs.
Why SSC CGL is still in craze?
The SSC CGL is a widely-sought exam because of the job security, vertical career progression, and lucrative salary package. The filled post through CGL recruitment is distributed in multiple department like income tax, customs, audit positions and others in the administration etc.
