Delhi to Host 22nd India-Russia Defence Commission Meeting Co-Chaired by Ministers

Delhi will host the 22nd India-Russia Defence Commission meeting, where senior ministers from both nations will co-chair discussions on defence cooperation. The meeting aims to strengthen strategic ties and advance joint defence projects.

India and Russia are currently preparing for an important defence meeting as Delhi gets ready to host the 22nd India-Russia Defence Commission session. 

This high-level meeting will also be co-chaired by the defence ministers of both countries. It is expected to focus on the aspects of strengthening military cooperation, focus on reviewing ongoing projects and also planning new areas of collaboration.

The meeting highlights the long-standing partnership that would take place between the two nations.

India and Russia have also shared strong defence ties for many decades. Russia has been one of India’s biggest defence partners; it has been supplying aircraft, submarines, tanks, missiles and other crucial equipment. 

The Defence Commission is a platform where both countries regularly come together to review their progress and also to decide their upcoming plans. The 22nd session will also continue this long tradition of strategic dialogue.

During this meeting, officials are also expected to discuss key military projects, focus on joint production plans and even on the aspect of technology transfer opportunities. India has been working actively on increasing domestic defence manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative. 

Russia has also shown interest in partnering with the nation of India to co-develop and co-produce various kinds of defence systems. This meeting may also help speed up several ongoing projects and, therefore, open the door for new ones.

The discussions are also likely to focus on the aspect of maintenance and the idea of modernisation of existing Russian-origin equipment in India. A large part of India’s military fleet, which has been including fighter jets, helicopters and armoured vehicles, is based on Russian technology.

Ensuring timely upgrades and also the idea of support is also important for India’s defence readiness. The ministers and also the delegation members will review the current challenges in the defence category and look for practical solutions.

Another major topic that is expected at the meeting is regional and global security. India and Russia often share similar views on maintaining peace and stability in Asia. 

Both countries believe in the idea of dialogue, cooperation and balanced global power. The commission that would take place will allow leaders to exchange views on the current emerging threats, new technological challenges and also on the idea of the evolving global defence environment.

Experts say that even though India has been expanding its defence ties with other nations, Russia still remains a crucial partner. Meetings like this show that the relationship continues to be strong. 

The Defence Commission also provides a structured space for honest discussions and long-term planning, which helps both countries maintain trust and cooperation.

Delhi will be hosting the 22nd session, and this also marks it as symbolic, as it reflects India’s commitment to continuing high-level engagement with Russia.
