Why Perplexity Users Are Suddenly Being Sent to Google Gemini

Many users in India are being redirected to Google Gemini when they try to open perplexity.in instead of Perplexity’s real website. This is happening because Perplexity does not own the .in domain and the issue is likely a glitch or domain misconfiguration.

Several users across India have now noticed a strange issue while trying to use the official website of Perplexity through the India-based domain.

When they type perplexity.in in the browser, the page automatically redirects them to Google Gemini, which is a direct rival of Perplexity.

This sudden redirection has caused great confusion among the platform users who think Perplexity has changed its website or is linking to Gemini on purpose. But this is not the case.

The official and the working website of the AI chatbot is perplexity.ai.

If users enter perplexity.ai directly, they are taken to the correct website with no problem.

This clearly shows that the redirection is only related to the .in domain and not the main Perplexity website. The important point is that Perplexity does not own the perplexity.in domain at all.

The company uses only the .ai domain and does not operate any kind of country-specific domains like .in, .uk, .fr, .de or others. So the India domain might be owned by someone else or may not have been registered properly.

Tests also show that other country-based domains such as perplexity.fr, perplexity.ca or perplexity.cn does not load and mostly returns errors.

Meanwhile, perplexity.com correctly redirects users to perplexity.ai, which is expected.

The confusing part is why perplexity.in specifically redirects to Google Gemini. There is no official information in any source saying Google owns this domain.

Domain checking tools also do not show any details about the current owner. This means the redirect could be the result of a technical glitch or could also be some misconfigured domain settings.
