Kolkata woke up to the clear and sunny skies today, thus giving residents a pleasant start to the day.
The temperature continued to remain comfortable in the morning, thereby making it easy for people to step out from their homes for their work, children for their school, and even the daily activities.
Afternoon temperatures are also expected to rise slightly, but the weather will still feel manageable compared to the harsher heat seen earlier in the season.
Even though the weather in Kolkata is pleasant, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in several parts of the city continues to remain a concern.
Pollution levels in the city stayed in the moderate to poor range, majorly and mainly due to dust, various traffic emissions, and even due to construction activities.
Experts also say that people with asthma or respiratory problems should be cautious while going to the outdoors.
The wind speed is also expected to stay light today, which might lately slow down the dispersal of pollutants in the air.
This is also one of the reasons why AQI has not improved much despite better weather conditions.
Health officials also currently suggest that wearing masks during peak traffic hours would be beneficial and avoiding long outdoor exposure is also advised.
Kolkata’s weather department have also noted that no rainfall is expected today.
The city may continue to enjoy he sunny skies throughout the day with mild warmth in the afternoon.
Night temperatures will remain comfortable, thus offering the Kolkata residents some relief from humidity.
Residents are also happy with the pleasant weather but they hope that the air quality improves soon.
Authorities are also working on various dust-control measures and even in the monitoring emissions to reduce pollution.
However, improvement in the environmental condition will still take time, as weather conditions play a big role in clearing the air.
