‘Caught GPT’: Dawn Slammed After AI Prompt Appears in Print Edition

Dawn newspaper printed an internal AI prompt in a business article, which by then has been triggering backlash and questions about its editorial standards. The paper has also admitted the mistake, invoked its AI policy violation and has even started an investigation.

A strange incident has recently put Pakistan’s well-known newspaper Dawn in the spotlight.

In one of its printed editions, readers found an unexpected line that looked exactly like an AI prompt.

The line seemed to be a set of proper instructions for an AI tool, thus saying something like “write an opinion piece about…” instead of the actual article.

As soon as people noticed it, the picture went pretty viral on social media platforms, and many users began calling it “Caught GPT.”

Readers were also surprised because newspapers usually have a long editing process. Many people questioned how such a big mistake could easily be passed through multiple checks.

Social media users also said that this shows how AI tools are being used in journalism today, sometimes even without proper oversight. Some users also made a joke on the same saying that the AI forgot to finish the article, while editors forgot to remove the prompt.

Critics of the newspaper have also argued that the mistake affects the credibility of traditional media.

They have also said that if a major newspaper can accidentally print an AI instruction, it raises proper and relevant questions about how much content might be written or influenced by AI.

Others felt this was a harmless error, butit is stills very embarrassing for a respected publication.

On the other hand, some people also tried to defend Dawn, saying that mistakes happen in any newsroom, especially with tight deadlines.

They pointed out that using AI tools is not wrong in the field of journalism as long as the final content is checked properly before printing.

After the incident had gained immense attention, many expected Dawn to issue a clarification, but there have been users on social media who have said the damage was already done.

The phrase “Caught GPT” quickly became a trending topic, with all the memes around and even many comments spreading everywhere.

This incident highlights aa majorand very important issue: as AI tools become more common, newsrooms must be extra careful.

Proper editing and human review must be done before publishing and are still essential to maintain trust and accuracy in journalism.
